I am a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist who specializes in working with adolescents and adults with a wide array of issues, including trauma and PTSD, chronic mental health conditions and addictions, anxiety, depression, and eating disorders. Our therapeutic relationship will be a collaborative approach. We’ll start by meeting you where you’re at, exploring your strengths and struggles, and establishing a safe and trusting environment. My style is warm, supportive, nonjudgmental, and playful, but I will challenge you when the time is right. My treatment approach is person-centered and includes a number of modalities, including psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness, and creative arts therapy interventions.

Don’t be alarmed by the term creative arts therapy! I practice traditional talk therapy, while I use my background as a drama therapist to inform my thinking and interventions. As our journey progresses, I may present you with an opportunity to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences in new and creative ways, but this is always optional. My role is to act as your guide in exploring your past and present with empathy to help you to develop insight, feel entitled to all of your feelings, and establish a more empowered future for yourself.

I received my Bachelor’s Degree at Emerson College and my Masters of Arts in Drama Therapy from New York University. I am also listed on Psychology Today and My Wellbeing.

My work experience includes individual and group therapy with adults living with substance use disorders, acting as a creative director in clinical inpatient addiction rehabilitation, as well as drama therapy and public speaking coaching for adolescents with autism spectrum disorder and adults living with chronic and persistent mental illness.

Sibel Akturk, LP-MHC

I am a Mental Health Counselor with experience working with adults of all ages facing anxiety, depression, eating disorders, LGBTQIA+ related-stress, life transitions and more. I believe in using a tailored approach to counseling, which consists of using a variety of techniques that fit the needs of yourself as a person. Human beings are complex and multi-faceted, therefore I believe that a counselor’s approach should match that as well. These therapeutic techniques include CBT, mindfulness, psychodynamic, motivational interviewing, REBT, and DBT. During sessions, I enjoy incorporating the interests of each client for the activities, homework, and discussions because I believe that it is important to keep the client engaged and at the center of what we are doing at all times.

I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Adelphi University and my Master’s degree in General Psychology from Adelphi University, as well. I then received an Advanced Graduate Certificate in Mental Health Counseling from the University at Buffalo. I am currently listed on MyWellbeing.

My work experience includes working in a residential facility for individuals with eating disorders, family therapy at Children’s Aid, and private practice work.

Work with a Therapist that Gets You

At Stefanie R. Therapy, we believe working with a therapist who truly understands you and your unique background is essential for effective healing and personal growth. Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all approach; your cultural, personal, and life experiences shape who you are and the challenges you face. A therapist who "gets you" creates a safe and supportive space where you can be authentic, knowing your concerns will be met with empathy and understanding. This connection allows for deeper insights, more personalized strategies, and ultimately a more meaningful path toward mental health and well-being. Finding the right therapist can be the key to unlocking lasting change. We are here to help you find the right therapist on our team for you. If you’re unsure who you’d like to work with, contact our team below and we can help you find the right fit provider.
